PKSOI was pleased to support the first Operational Gender Advisor (OGC) course at U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) and U.S. European Command (EUCOM) in Stuggart, Germany from June 10-14. The course trained twenty three U.S. military and civilian personnel to serve as gender advisors and human security focal points. During the five day course, students participated in a series of lectures and group exercises to examine and practice integrating gender perspectives into military planning and operations. Ms. Sarah Petrin, Peace Operations Analyst at PKSOI, instructed courses on Sexual and Gender Based Violence, Stakeholders for Civil-Military Cooperation, and Lessons Learned in Women, Peace and Security and facilitated small group activities to enhance learning outcomes. The OGC course is certified by the Joint Chiefs of Staff and meets the training requirements in the Women, Peace and Security Act of 2017. The new U.S. Strategy on Women, Peace and Security was released by the White House during the course, further emphasizing the importance of women's participation in achieving stable and lasting peace, improving the safety of women and girls, ensuring equal access to assistance programs, and institutionalizing these efforts through training and capacity building with partner governments.
